Health is a human right

Also for tuna crews and observers. The potential risk of them COVID-19 contracting and/or transmitting it on tuna fishing vessels is one that neither they, their families, or our tuna nations should be exposed to. Vaccinations are an crucial step to keep our people at sea and on the islands safe.

It is real good to see our Pacifical PNA and other ministers highlighting this need and making a loud call for the prioritization of the vaccination of observers, fishing crew, and seafarers as frontline workers against COVID-19.

“We want to see all of our people back out there, earning their livelihoods and being able to take care of their families, but even more crucially, we must ensure their health and safety is protected from COVID19,” said Fiji Minister for Fisheries, Honourable Semi Koroilavesau.
