Pacifical Presents At The World Tuna INFOFISH Trade Conference In Bangkok
June 7, 2012

PNA and Pacifical could not miss the TUNA 2012 conference, which took place two weeks ago. Several interesting debates and speeches were held from the 23 – 25 of May in Bangkok.

PNA chair person Ms. Nannette Malsol and Pacifical Commercial Director Mr. Henk Brus both gave valuable presentations on the global impact of PNA measures on the world tuna market and the situation and developments within the Europe on eco-labels respectively.

The PNA Chair made this invitation to all the tuna companies present: “The industry must move towards viewing small island states not as unnecessary appendages, but as valued business partners.”

Our Pacifical Director explained the evolution of eco- labeling from 1990, when the “flipper logo” was launched based on self-certification by captains of their own catches being dolphin safe to 2012, while retailers and consumers have decided that we need a reliable sustainability logo, which not only covers one species, but assures us that the entire eco-system is protected. The combination of MSC with the PNA management system provides such a solution, based on third party verification.
